Short-form Content
- Choosing to Become Yourself - Petey's writeup on being yourself and figuring out what you like to do. i like the sam anecdote, thinking about the person you'll be afterwards as the metric for decisions.
- Book from the Sky - thoughts on universal languages and the history of the Chinese language, subtle mix between fact and fiction
- The Leper - a hypothetical tale focusing on the human side of post-war Korea
- How to Catch a Lab Leak - interview of the guy who proved a lab leak in a soviet facility
- Discovered our parents were Russian spies - crazy shit
- 50 Things I Know - i think people that think hard about "typical" social things but remain empathetic and evolve around norms are cool
- My Path to OpenAI - pretty inspirational if you ask me
- Even If You Beat Me - a former college debater's experience, evident that she still struggles with ego / virtue in these spaces
- How the SMU football program came to be killed - very jon bois-like style of videography. i love texas.
- Single-Bit Error - great twist on a classic Ted Chiang story. i like these stories that are a great mix b/w science/tech and emotion/religion
- Unexpected poetry in PhD acknowledgements - beautiful
- Antimemetics Division Hub - not an scp guy but this sent me down a week-long rabbit hole. functions great even independently.
- Reality has a surprising amount of detail - nothing is simple! think about how things work and how to optimize.
- Alignment - i love second person perspective! i sorta find myself in the shoes of both characters, almost like a representation of a conversation with myself. i instinctively see the narrator as male and the subject as female while the author intended the reverse - maybe i see myself more in the narrator's eyes than the subject's?
- Notes on Managing ADHD - some great actionable tips on managing ADHD. was kept in my bookmarks for too long.
- 17776 - Jon Bois's magnum opus. if you have any interest in sports or culture whatsoever, this is a must-read. it's probably the best piece of mixed media content i've ever seen
- Bobby Broccoli - this isn't a specific video, but he makes amazing documentaries about science scandals. my favorite channel of the "youtube documentary" genre
